Fixed-mount UHF CB radios are ideal for 4WD and long-distance travel when users will be communicating across larger distances, as they are able to be connected to large, high-gain antennas. Also, fixed-mount radios do not rely on a battery pack; instead (they) draw power from the vehicle’s 12V in-built battery system.
The Oricom DTX range of Premium Fixed Mount UHF CB radios are well engineered to thrive in the Australian outback. The UHF182X Dual Antenna 5 Watt UHF CB Radio features a unique INtegrated (DAS) Dual Antenna System, allowing for the strongest signal.
HANDHELD UHF CB RADIOS
The alternative to fixed mount UHF CB Radios is the handheld radio. These products thrive during treks and bushwalks or when traveling close by to one another while four-wheel driving. The handheld units are often lighter and compact, however, they require a battery pack to function. The Oricom range of handheld UHF CB Radios ensure reliable communication as well as offers waterproof solutions. They come with feature-packed options across a range of different shapes, sizes, and power outputs.
UHF CB ANTENNAS
The size of the antenna typically relates to gain, and gain is one of the important factors in selecting an antenna.
Choosing the right antenna depends entirely on the kind of off-road driving you're planning. If the areas you plan to drive require tight spaces with slippery surfaces, overhanging tree limbs etc. then avoid long antennas. However, if open-road, long-distance driving is on the agenda, then a short antenna might not provide enough connectivity to your convoy.
In hilly terrain, a low-gain (short) antenna is best and a high-gain (long) antenna is best for flat terrain. A medium-gain antenna of 5 to 6.5dBi for most situations, or better yet an antenna in which the whip can be removed and you can interchange between a low-gain and medium-gain antenna gives the most flexibility.
MOUNTING BRACKETS
The Oricom Folding Antenna Mounting Bracket Black BR600 provides the ability to easily collapse long UHF CB or Mobile Phone antennas when required. Can be mounted on a standard bull bar tab with a 16mm hole or a bull bar antenna bracket.
The bracket can be folded into one of four positions, and is held securely in position with a solid spring loaded locking pin. Made from 304 grade stainless steel with a natural brushed or black chromate finish.
